How playoff chances are estimated

We simulate the remaining schedule 2,000 times. Each game starts with a team-strength estimate that blends its 2025 record with completed 2026 results, plus a small home-field adjustment. In each simulation, four division winners and three wild cards qualify per conference. Tied records use simplified division and conference records, then a random tie break. The NFL’s official tie-breaking rules are more detailed, so these percentages are directional estimates, not official odds or predictions of exact seeds.
